Congratulations to Dr Lorenzo Petralia

We are delighted to announce Dr Lorenzo Petralia has started his research position as a PDRA at The University of Oxford.

Following a competitive funding call, Lorenzo successfully secured 1 year of funding from the EPSRC BIOREME Fellowship funding grant to support the next stages in his research.

Lorenzo has a background in physics and has been applying his knowledge in simulations and data analysis to challenges in respiratory research and medical diagnostic technology.

Lorenzo will be using the Fellowship funding to further progress his work with The Ritchie Group, where he worked on the development of a novel laser–based sensor for time resolved measurements of the fraction of exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO). Measurement of FeNO is a NICE approved method of detecting the presence of eosinophilic airway inflammation.

The next stages of this work will focus on the development of a mechanistic model to locate nitric oxide production in the airways, potentially leading to better understanding and prediction of response to inhaled corticosteroid treatment in patients with TH2-high asthma.

This work will be carried out with support from Prof I.D. Pavord, Head of Respiratory Medicine at Oxford.

To find out more about his work, please visit his research page.

We are looking forward to hearing more about his work at our Annual Network Wide Meeting where he will deliver a research presentation.
