How could attending a Sandpit benefit me?

A sandpit is an event which aims to bring together cross-disciplinary experts to develop new project ideas around a given theme. The sandpit format encourages attendees to approach challenges with an open mind and get creative with research design.

The sandpit format is a great way to explore entirely new research areas through the formal presentations/Q & A sessions. More importantly, these events facilitate conversations in which it becomes clear how attendees from different disciplines can contribute to project ideas as they develop. Open to PIs through to ECRs, I would highly recommend them to the latter who are looking to develop independent research careers and develop new collaborations." Dr Bindi Brook, Network Chair

Bioreme are hosting a sandpit this September on “Understanding Long COVID”. This two day event will focus on a number of challenges related to Long COVID and £10,000 seed funding will be awarded to the best project. The event will run as follows;

Day 1: Researchers involved in Long COVID studies will present the trial data and attendees will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and their research area/ interests. We will also hear from clinicians and patient advocates with professional and personal perspectives on Long COVID. The research challenges will then be explored and refined.

Day 2: Is where the research ideas are formed. Attendees will form groups and discuss the research challenges refined on day 1, create and propose project ideas. After which the winning team will be supported by BIOREME and awarded seed funding.
