Prof Bindi Brook
NETWORK CHAIR
Bindi is a Professor in Mathematics at the University of Nottingham. She has a wide range of research expertise in respiratory modelling, including biomechanical and biochemical processes across scales from single-cell to whole-organ.
-
Prof Alex Horsley
DEPUTY CHAIR
Alex is a Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the University of Manchester and a specialist in Cystic Fibrosis (CF). His expertise is in lung disease physiology, with a particular focus on CF and the measurement of ventilation heterogeneity.
Research Theme Leads
-
Prof Salman Siddiqui
THEME 1 LEAD
Salman is a Clinical Professor of Respiratory Medicine at the National Heart and Lung Institute and Imperial College, UK. His research interests focus on the development and application of new technologies to experimental medicine in asthma and COPD.
-
Prof Peter Robbins
THEME 2 LEAD
Peter is a Professor of Physiology at the University of Oxford. He has a track record in the development of new measurement technologies for respiratory medicine, using a combination of expertise in physiology, mathematics, engineering and chemistry.
-
Prof Declan Bates
THEME 3 LEAD
Declan is a Professor of Engineering at the University of Warwick. His research interests focus on feedback control systems in biology and medicine, including modelling mechanical ventilation and other ICU pulmonary interventions.
-
Dr Carl Whitfield
THEME 1 CO-LEAD AND PART-TIME PROJECT MANAGER
Carl is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Manchester interested in models of flow and transport in the airways of the lung. His work is focussed on using models to extract more information from lung measurement data.
-
Prof Jim Wild
THEME 2 CO-LEAD
Jim is Professor of Magnetic Resonance Physics and Head of Imaging at the University of Sheffield. He founded and leads the imaging research group POLARIS. He specialises in hyperpolarised Gas Magnetic Resonance Imaging and using this technology to garner new insights into lung function.
-
Prof Nicholas Hill
THEME 3 CO-LEAD
Nick is the Simson Professor of Mathematics at the University of Glasgow. His research interests involve the mathematical modelling of soft tissues and fluids in biology and physiology. A primary focus is in data-driven modelling of the pulmonary circulation using cutting-edge statistical methods.
