BIOREME Undergraduate Student Internships

Summary

Project supervisors (applicants) are invited to apply for funding of up to £3,500 (per student) to support Undergraduate student internships hosted at their institutions during summer 2025 for up to 8 weeks. Internships based in London (in the City of London or a Metropolitan Police District) will receive an uplift to a total £3,800. We have funding to award 2 internships in 2025.

  • It is expected the project supervisors will submit the project proposal(s).

  • Successful projects will be awarded the funding and be delivered at the project supervisor’s host institution

  • The host institution is responsible for administering the recruitment and delivery of the project. Therefore, the supervisor must have confirmation of support from the host institution prior to submission.

Project proposals must be aligned with BIOREME’s remit; biophysical / mechanistic modelling of respiratory diseases. We encourage you to consider our four main themes for guidance on our main research interests, but our remit is broader and we welcome applications that do not fall neatly into one of these themes.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students, in their penultimate year of undergraduate study, to gain valuable hands-on experience of data-driven modelling in respiratory medicine research. Successful projects will provide core skills training and experience in academic research, as well as inspire the next generation of scientists to work at the interface of the mathematical sciences and respiratory medicine.

Who can apply

Applications are invited from Researchers based at UK HEIs who are eligible for EPSRC: UKRI funding. Project Supervisors (applicants):

  • Are expected to have the relevant research expertise and experience to guide and support the student through the project.

  • Must be able to demonstrate they have the necessary infrastructure in place to advertise and deliver these internships at their host institution.

  • Must have written support from their relevant head of department/faculty for hosting the internship and confirmation of agreement with the terms of the funding (see Guidance Notes for full details). Please note if this is not obtained by the submission deadline, we will require this before finalising an award in the case of successful proposals.

  • Must submit a project proposal that includes biophysical modelling as an integral component.
