Industry Focus Group on Imaging, Measurement and Biomarker Discovery in Respiratory Medicine

This is the first of a series of online focus groups which will provide an opportunity for industry represenatives to find out how they can work with the BIOREME network to create new mutually beneficial collaborations with academia in specific areas of BIOREME’s remit.

For this event, we invite industry representatives who work on technologies related to lung imaging, measurement or biomarker discovery to attend a 1.5hr online focus group led by the BIOREME Network. The event will include two case studies to provide examples of how biophysical modelling research in respiratory medicine has and can create exciting opportunities for industry partners.

This will be relevant to companies working in areas including (but not limited to)

  • Lung imaging technologies (particularly on the software/data processing end)

  • Pulmonary function tests (e.g. spirometry devices, multiple breath washout, forced oscillomentry etc.)

  • Remote monitoring devices and technologies (e.g. wearables, portable PFTs etc.)

  • Breath content measurement and biomarker discovery (e.g. measurement of breath FeNO and/or volatile compounds)

Event Schedule:

15:30 — 15:35: Introductions and welcome

15:35 — 15:50: [TBC]: An introduction to the BIOREME Network and overview of research theme 2

15:50 — 16:00: Prof Geoff Maksym: Computational modelling to improve the interpretation of Forced Oscillometry Measurements (Case Study 1)

16:00 — 16:10: Prof Stephen Fowler: Exhaled volatile organic compounds, an untapped source of non-invasive biomarkers (Case Study 2)

16:10 — 16:20: Open Q&A for participants to ask questions

16:20 — 16:55: Structured discussion around prompt questions provided in advance

16:55 — 17:00: Summary and next steps
